About the role

The Deputy Head of Products – Bus (Europe Market) holds executive responsibility for the European bus product line and acts as the operational leader of product management in the EU region.

This role carries direct authority over product planning, tender technical approval, localization priorities, and coordination with HQ R&D and manufacturing. The position ensures that all bus products launched in Europe are competitive, compliant, and strategically aligned with the BYD European commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and own the 3–5 year European bus product roadmap
  • Decide product positioning across segments (city bus, intercity, coach, electric bus)
  • Lead competitive benchmarking against major European OEMs
  • Align product strategy with Sales Director Europe revenue targets
  • Lead technical review of all major European bus tender
  • Approve or adjust vehicle configuration strategy before quotation
  • Coordinate engineering feasibility review with HQ
  • Control deviation list strategy and technical risk exposure
  • Act as final regional product gatekeeper before submission
  • Control European product launch timeline
  • Oversee homologation and regulatory compliance (EU/WVTA)
  • Decide market entry readiness per country
  • Coordinate pilot projects and demo vehicles

Main duties

  • Own the European Bus Product Roadmap Execution
  • Lead Technical Governance for Major Tenders
  • Manage Product Localization & Engineering Change Requests
  • Supervise New Product Introduction (NPI) & Compliance
  • Cross-Functional Product Leadership
  • Performance Monitoring & Margin Protection

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years in bus or commercial vehicle industry
  • Strong knowledge of European public transport tender structure
  • Experience coordinating cross-border engineering teams
  • Strong strategic and commercial mindset
  • Fluent English required, Other European languages are a plus
